Right angle microphone connector question.
I need an extension for my mic cord. I have seen several 10" extensions w/ the right angle (90*) connector attached that would be perfect for what I'm trying to do. The only problem is the alignment slot in the connector would have the mic wire going straight up when attached to my radio. I need the wire going down. Every extension I have seen a picture of has it oriented this way. Can the orientation of the slot in the right angle connector be turned to the opposite side without having to rewire it? I don't have the capability to solder a new connector on right now. I also checked an old mic I had to see if the slot could be moved to the other side and it couldn't, so I'm not sure if the right angle connectors can be or not. In case it helps, I'm trying to use this on a General Lee radio and the rail the mic slot rides on is located on the right side of the connector when facing the radio. TIA.

do not know about the ones you are looking at but I bought some a few years back for my side mic radios and the connector I bought had some extra screw holes in them so you could turn the plug to do what you are talking about. I put my radios on the center hump and the cord would stick straight out at my leg. the elbows I bought worked just fine. like I said not sure about the ones you are looking at.

Re: Right angle microphone connector question.
That's what I'm hoping. The connector that I took apart had a screw on one side and the other had a slot so that it could only be oriented one way. But since that was a straight connector installed at the factory, on a factory mic I wasn't sure if that was the norm. Looking around it seems that different radios have the rail oriented in different ways w/ the most common being on bottom. So I'm thinking the right angle connectors must be adjustable. If not then the ones I've seen pictured would not work on the bottom railed radios.....unless the user wants the wire cutting across the knobs.sonoma wrote:do not know about the ones you are looking at but I bought some a few years back for my side mic radios and the connector I bought had some extra screw holes in them so you could turn the plug to do what you are talking about. True. I thought about it but I wasn't sure what the backside looked like and didn't want to break any connections.Whiskey Man wrote:Well you could turn the plug in the radio the way you want.
