Nice hearing from you Screaming72.

Short wave listening is great fun too.

I have a big mouth though and like to talk (TX) too and all the meter bands.

I sometimes like listening to distant radio stations from all over the work.

There is a website called eqsl.cc where you can send SWL requests when you get a Shortwave number.

Best wishes and Happy Labor Day...

Extra Amateur Radio Operator

-- Saturday, 30 August 2014, 11:19 AM --

Here is the latest update.

I will be operating from West Virginia (Punkin Head's Town) at times of my selection from Tuesday, October 21 at 8 PM or Wednesday, October 22 at 0000 Z or UTC time to Tuesday, October 28 at 8 PM or WEdnesday, October 28 until 0000 Z or UTC Time.

My call will be W1AW/8.

My early choices are to start on Tuesday, October 21 at 8 PM local time until 10 PM local time on 15 meters around 21.305 MHZ. We will probably still be on Daylight Savings Time here though. Add 4 hours to the time if you qsl W1AW.

Also, I have chosen to operate Wednesday, October 22 at 6 AM local time until 8 AM on 2 meters around 144.210 MHZ USB because of the possiblity of early morning tropospheric DX (Skip) openings. Hope to hear you then MDYoungblood and other amateurs on the east coast and other areas with fortunate conditions. I run a 13 element horizontal yagi on 2 meters with a triangle of two elements up and behind the driven element.

There are plenty more selections to make and so many variables I must think of like my spouse, conditions on the air, etc. However, Hooray, work will not be one as I will be on vacation.

Enjoying Labor Day weekend and radio condx today.

Not sure why it put my previous message with this message.

Here I go again.

W1AW/8 in October

-- Sunday, 21 September 2014, 1:20 AM --

One month away from this event on October 21 at 8 PM until October 28 at 8 PM.

My big loop with a Tuner continues to make contacts and when I turn on the amplifier well nothing else needs said.

Hope to hear from many of you amateurs.

A little over two weeks to prepare before I go on the air as W1AW/8 representing the ARRL and the State of West Virginia .

Some may not know that W1AW is the amateur radio callsign of the USA National Organization for Amateur Radio called the Amateur Radio Relay League.

They fight for frequency allocations and the right to have towers and not be pushed off the air which some government leaders would prefer. North Korea does not allow amateur radio unless once every couple decades someone will be allowed.

I hope Amateurs with an amateur license will look for the numerous stations that will be on the air starting October 21 at 8 PM through October 28 at 8 PM on all bands and Digital modes.

I had a wonderful time representing West Virginia with others from our state using the W1AW/8 callsign during just one part of the 100th Anniversary of the Amateur Radio Relay League that represents amateurs and others in frequency allocations through the FCC and Internationa..

I made 910 qso's and hoped for more but my wife decided we were going during that week to the Pocono's so I lost 3 days of the 7.

Next my truck battery died on another day so I lost part of that day.

Not sure I spoke with any of you that have your amateur license.

73 all.
