HEY GUYS, WIFE CALLED MY IMAX IS GONE. BLOWN TO PEICESE. IT GOT TO MY SUPER GALAXY WHERE THE COAX FROM THE ANT WAS RUNNING TO, POWER SUPPLY, LAPTOP, STEREO AND DVD UNIT ALL GOT SMOKED. SUPPRISING THE TV DIDN'T BURN.
IT TRIPPED SWITCH PANEL TO THE ROOM OUTLETS.

BOTH FUSES ON MY 95T BLOWN, LUCKILY SAVED IT! THK GOD!

LOOKS LIKE SOLARCON ARE MAKING LIGHTNINIG MAGNETS, SAW ANOTHER POST ON THIS SITE WITH THE SAME STRIKE RESULT.

BASE WAS GROUNDED TO MAST, MAST POUNDED INTO THE GROUND.

THE COAX WAS BLOWN OUT OF AMPHENOL CONNECTOR @ THE TOP OF THE MAST.

I STILL HAVE MY STARDUSTER, WAITING TIL IT CLEARS UP, SUNNY THAT IS TO HOOK IT UP, MIGHT BE ABLE TO SALVAGE THE SGALAXY

aw man. sorry to hear that. I had lightning hit a tree behind my house not to long ago. it blew somthing in my $250 computer speakers and messed up my sound card on my computer but that was all surprisingly.

Lightning does some strange things...

I wonder if grounding and pole contact to ground were the culpret on the strike.

Old houses used to have short poles on the roof with grounds going down to deep rods just to handle strikes. Dont know if it ever worked as no one does it now. Might have turned your pole into the magnet and electricity went up and down.

My dad had a bad strike at his house 3 years ago. hit a tree right next to his house ground. Power went backwards through the house and fried everything elect in the house, from the hot water heater and fridge to phones and computers. Surge protectors shunt power surges through the grounding system so a hit on the grounds did it in.

yea that sucks,.. kinda wary of that,.. puting my starduster up this weekend.. around here there are always close strikes..
will have to make sure everything is unpluged & coax thrown outside while not in use & in storms..
One of the locals actualy had to good a ground on his stuff..
lighting struck a close by transformer and it run all the way to his house out to his tower.. got everything pluged in his room.. power company said he has a better ground then them.. and until he digs up all that buried copper it would keep happening..so be sure not to get a better ground that the power company..lol

wow madhadder. lol i'll keep that in mind...

I've read in quite a few places that if lightning directly strikes your antenna, no matter how well it's grounded, bad things will happen unfortunately.

Don't mess with Mother Nature...

yea, if it hits, its going to get something bad..
best thing I know is unplug & disconnect the coax and throw it outside during storms..
some local put there coax in a glass jar.. but I think that would only create a bunch of broken glass flying threw the air at 100 mph on top of all the electricity.. double wammy..lol
one does but his glass jar in a metal bucket now.. dunno??
I will alway just throw mine out the window so atleast it might not ge the radio..

That would probably be the best idea. But hopefully we won't have to experiance what 15mini did... i might shed a tear if my radio stuff got blown to bits....
