The new Alinco DX-10 radio - a review

#375368

Post by mslisaj »

I just thought I would share my experience with my new Alinco DX-10 radio. What caught my eye about this radio was that is was a 10 meter "CB" style radio. It will do 11 meters also and is a nice skip shooter from that respect too. In my reading about this radio I heard some rave reviews of using a Turner Plus Three desk mic with it. I have to say this made this radio a talker and adds enough punch to get through any pile-up.

Many years ago, when I first got interested in CB I had a Realistic Base Station and I was able to get a Plus Three for that radio and I could just walk up to the radio, key the mic from a standing position and heard perfectly. So my love affair with this mic goes way back.

If anyone has an questions about this radio or mic combination I would love to answer you questions.

Thanks for taking your time to read my short review about this new radio.

Best Regards,

Lisa

I had one a couple years ago, I do believe it was discontinued and the 135CB took over it's spot. The radio had good specs and resembles the CRE8900 model, real easy to mod to 11m band. Alinco is up and coming in the amateur radio market, I'd watch for a DX-SR9T.

Yes it's a rebranded CRE-8900 and easy as you say to use on 11 meters too. It's a great little radio and I use it as my base radio. I have an Icom IC-718 for ham play and a Yaseu for 2 meters. So this one looks good in the shack.

Thanks for the PM and good advice too. Always appreciared.

Lisa

I'm an Icom fan myself, have a 735, 746 (non pro), and a 880H, not a lot of D-Star in my area though. I am looking at a Yeasu Fusion, a couple locals are using them.

You definitely have some nice gear Greg. My ham stuff rarely gets turned on any more as I have more fun wtih CB. I am a retired long haul trucker and lived with a CB running in the truck full time. A long story of how and why I got my tech license but sufice it to say CB is where I am at home and with this radio I have talked more CB skip then ever did on 10 meters.

Wishing you a happy New Year my friend,

Regards,

Lisa

There's a nice article in QST magazine on that radio. It's May or July issue 2015 I believe.

Thanks Silvereagle 1, by chance in my searching for info on this radio I did find that article and printed it out. It's really a nice radio and while "hams" take a dim view of it and will talk it down that it cost too much. Its really a good buy for what it will do. When the skip is in I can talk all over at will and the Turner mic was just the icing on the cake for me.

Thanks for the info.
