It's been a week since I heard any good skip. The last time there was skip I was able to make some contacts. I heard a little foreign talk the other night, but that's it. :pale: Oh well, good time to get off my *** and get **** done.

We are going into the "Solar Minimum" so skip will keep getting less and less until the next swing up in Solar Cycle 25 which should start ramping up in or around 2020. :icon_e_sad:

Right now Solar Cycle 25 it is predicted to be the quietest/lowest cycle in many, many years.

I heard it was rolling on Thanksgiving day but I was nowhere near a radio. One guy on ch6 acknowledged me Friday morning when I told him to tell a local to get off the radio and go make me a turkey sandwich with mayonnaise.

It is going to be a wait and see shooting match for the next couple of years. It takes a solar flare to skim the earth's ionosphere, a space rock (or junk) hitting the atmosphere. When you hear it is when you know skip is running, my best answer to this question.

With solar minimum upon us and the possibility for a very week maximum it could be a decade before we get consistent skip on 27 meters. Not to say there won't be any, solar winds and random flares can open things right up, but probably not consistently.

Might be a good time to look in to ham radio. Usually some band is alive and with a general license and piece of wire you can always find someone somewhere.
