uniden 78 mods?

i have uniden 78 which i like alot, but would like it more and not consider buying a new radio if it had echo and talk back. is that something that can be added to that radio, or is better to just buy another radio with those features? thanks

talkback is easy,,,take the top cover off and fing the ground on the ext speaker and pa, solder a resistor across them,,,try a 150 Ohm,,,echo you can buy and if you can solder and follow instructions it can be added easy

depends on what money you want to spend, a good echo is an astatic EB-1, its what most truck stops install and are calling a connex board , but it isn't,,,,RF Limited TRB 1 Digital Echo Board is a good board but cost twice the money ,,,any better probably not, so look at the astatic

I have been messing with alot of older cobra's 25's and 29's. I followed big bopper on the talk back, easy as he said... the echo board i did too, astatic as he said, got it for about 14 plus shipping on ebay. Not the difficulty is the are you have to work with, i had alot of tedious probs getting it to fit in a soundtracker model, but finally made good. wasted alot of effort. now, the last thing. you can do the same final mod to the uniden as you can to the cobra. a cb shop would make you the ol package deal on all of this for 115 +/- you have alot of little parts to solder in and then to fine tune it all, with gauges you dont have....

since i am going this route... i might seriously suggest spending 215 on a nice connex 3300 hp at sparkys, which i just did. also, having him peak and tune included in the cost. the 3300 has the same board as the galaxy 99 i am told and comes with about 40 watts. the best we can get out of our uniden clones is 25+/-. now your radio would likely sell for what??? 70 on ebay maybe. then the cost of mods... and still short on horse power.

another one i looked at was the north point NT3HP. super power , 50 watts, and lots of perks...plus easy as pie mods to open up the bands (two jumpers) the price was right at gi joes... but back ordered. might be worth the wait... can you live with yours til one gets available? hehe///
