Cobra 2000gtl no recieve?

i have a cobra 2000gtl base and everything works except i do not hear anything but static. ideas what it could be? crystal? something in the rcv side?

Welcome to the forum. By saying "everything else works" you mean you can hear the radio transmitting to another radio? Meter movement? Does the radio have mods done? Questions need to be a little more specific.

Could be the microphone, bad/broken wiring or dirty contacts.

ok i have an update, seems there is no TX either. my meter swings on modulation and it can be heard thru a test radio a foot away but not farther. mic and plug are new.

Since you can hear yourself on another radio that eliminates the audio chip being bad, your next step is to check the final, I would say the driver is okay because you are getting some transmission out of the radio.

Check SWR? could be the radio is not seeing the antenna...check inside the radio and see if the coax connector is connected...sometimes if the connector gets loose and spins, it can break the little center wire off the back of the connector.

If SWR is pegged out, I wouldn't be talking on it.

swr is 1.1 across the board.
