i think it was the lingo back in the 70's cb boom when everybody, i mean everybody! had a cb rigged up, and the overbearing chatter was equated to the intelligence found in a noisy chicken coop,,,and thats not to be confused with a state scale, or your typical roadside choke n puke serving a chicken dinner, mmmm fried chicken anyone?

Jealousy... I know quite a few ham operators and all use the CB frequency most times with their ham equipment, the ones you read about calling CB the "chicken band" are the ones that use it the most.

I'm a rare breed I suppose then. Along with probably a few on here. I'll be the first one to admit that I started out on the 11 meter band and still use it even though I've gotten my HAM "ticket" punched I still like to hop on the ole 11 meter rig and shoot some skip. I still think its a blast! Heck I still have my Realistic 482 somewhere in the house and I still have my 980 SSB and my Cobra 29 LTD Classic! Kinda diggin the Cobra right now with its 25 watts of swing and no box, the locals say I be blowin smoke in their boxes! LOL! I have it paired with a Road Devil power mic and my tech put a mic gain and a talk back feature on it.

I started out on CB as well...back in the 70s and I recall that even CBers called it the "chicken band" back then.....I think.... just because Chicken Band starts with the letters CB. But I do recall it being said back then....

I too am a licensed technician and I do enjoy 2m/70cm talk.....but I am here to tell you... I miss CB and I SWEAR that ultimately... I will get set up and back to it. I miss the informality.
