A couple of questions for "Cap Changers" please.....

Have plans to change out caps on several radios of mine to bring them back to reliable operation.... and have a couple of questions.

1) Do any of you recommend any specific caps for CBs like this? This could either be brands or characteristics. By characteristics I'm talking mostly about the temp spec. I have heard around that most tend to replace lower voltage electrolytics with higher voltages like 25V no matter what position they are in and that makes sense. But 85C? 105C? Obviously, the higher, the better.... but 85C is 185 f. I don't know if a radio would ever get that hot...... or is it worth it anyway?

2) I am probably over-thinking on this one: lead spacing! I see many caps that are the right value/voltage....but I see them in 2mm or maybe 2.5mm then 3 or 3.5 mm.....

Does a mm here or there REALLY affect how a cap "sits down" on the PC board? In other words.... do I need to measure what mine are... and be sure to buy the exact match? Or does a mm even matter?

I would say just make sure you get axial caps if needed for the old old stuff and radial for most newer surface mount stuff.If you order new they most come with a long lead you cut to fit application...good luck,sometimes time consuming and tedious work.Often best to do one at a time then just recheck radio functionality as you go....

None of these are that old... I already know that they are all radial caps... and that is really why the interest in lead spacing. I mean... if an old one was 2.5 and a new one is 3.5, I just can't believe that 1 little mm will make that much difference....

The only thing that really matters is keeping the same value as the one you remove and the voltage the same or higher, I've used different spacing on the contacts/leads, just makes it harder to set in place.
