need mic instructions

#41449

Post by Apollo »

I just received today a Workman SS DM-1000 turbo echo mic that I ordered from Spark's. The problem is, it didn't come with any owners manual or instructions at all. The mic has two separate wheels on the back that are labeled with their function but there are also two access holes that you can reach into through the back of the mic and adjust I assume the gain or volume or something, I not quiet sure. I'm new to the CB world and I don't know what exactly I should be adjusting and why. The mike is advertized as having variable talkback but the package says nothing about it. Anyone know where I may be able to find instructions or a manual for this mike. I tried to find a website for Workman but no luck so far.

Thanks for the link. They don't have any info on their website either. I guess they think that everyone should already know how to operate the functions on their product even though there are no instructions and two of the adjustments aren't even labeled with what they are for.

Okay, I think I have figured out what everything controls but I'm not sure the mic is working correctly of if that's just the way this cheap mic is. The talkback function can not be turned all the way down or the mic will not transmit. Aslo, when you try to turn the gain on the mic down so that the mic doesn't sqeal when you transmit the audio doesn't sound good. The audio sounds great when you turn the gain on the mic all the way up but you have to turn the mic gain on the radio down so low that when you are talking on it, the needle on the signal strenght meter doesn't swing no where near as high as it does with the factory mic that came with the radio or as it does with the new mic when the mic gain on the mic is turned down low and the gain on the radio turned up. From what I've seen so far, this mic is junk. I wonder if Spark's will let me return it and exchange it for another mic ? I guess I'll give him a call on Monday to see what he will do.

I'd bet he will let you exchange it, or he can talk you through getting it set up right.

He hasn't built his good reputation by hanging his customers out to dry. Especially not a CBRT forum member.

Keep us posted.

Watch out for those wheels on top of the mic. They don't take too much up and down. In other words, don't turn them back and forth a lot. Those small pots inside the mic are not very beefy and can wear out pretty fast.

Also those adjustments for volume (voice) and talkback volume can strip rather easily. Just gotta be careful.

Talking from experience here, Mike
