Stryker 655HP questions or just a fluke?
Good morning!
So I did away with my faulty Galaxy DX959B and got myself the Stryker 655, and oh my.. what a radio this thing is, I totally love it.
Couple of things... Programming the Roger Beep, I didn't realize I had to do it on all 40 channels one at a time, figured I would pick the one I liked and it would default across all channels, but it doesn't, This morning, I found myself patiently programming the same RB for each channel, took a little while. But its good now.
Last night I was transmitting on Ch21, and this channel has a long awful loud RB (Hence why I re-programmed them all today). Next thing.. No power at all? Blew a fuse in the power cord from battery to CB, No idea why? Worked fine last week. This morning I went back to using my heavy duty power cord to the CB from the Cigarette lighter and all is good again.
So.. a couple of strange things.. perhaps just a fluke?
....Regards

I never heard either problem before but every radio now a days have some glitches. I've programed a couple of 955's but I cheated and used the programing cord and my laptop. I don't know which power cord is with the 655 but the 955 has a heavier than normal cord.

Something is drawing too much power, I suspect the radio is fine but the cord and fuse need to be beefed up to handle the draw. I had a similar problem with one of my Icom 2mtr radios. Also be careful using the 12v from the cig lighter/aux power. Once I fixed the Icom problem (it was wired to the battery direct) I rewired to the cig lighter in my truck so I could move the radio from vehicle to vehicle and the radio drew too much power and melted the socket.

If you move the radio from truck to truck you might want to look into using Anderson Powerpole connectors, they can handle the amperage and makes changing out a snap.

Wow, not trying to hijack here but that Anderson setup looks nice. I spent an hour surfing Mouser the other night looking for a small flush mount panel with like10-24 brass studs and red and black to put under my overhead console in my KW. Something on the order of the connections on several reg 12v power supplies. Couldn't find squat. Anderson looks promising.

Google them, they make all kinds of stuff and with amperage's to handle off road winches, quick connect jumper cables or smaller stuff like power blocks.w9l wrote: November 9th, 2018, 9:45 am Wow, not trying to hijack here but that Anderson setup looks nice. What amperage is the fused circuit you tapped into? Believe the Stryker pulls pretty close to 15A while transmitting (mine does anyway). Hard wire it to the battery for best results.
