Texas Star amps

I'm running my texas star as a base amp and anyone familiar with them is that the heat sink is on the bottom. My question is heat sink up or heat sink down ?

Doesn't matter as long as there is air flow.

ok cool you all know heat rises and there is several threads "out there" regarding heat sinks and the top or bottom so i needed some opinions . I have seen some aftermarket fan kits but it doesn't look right considering my earlier statement about "heat". I have mounted my 500 vertically behind my seat in my truck yrs ago but im using this one as a base .

just put it upside down, mount two 120mm fans on the heat sink using anchors, solder them in with a toggle switch and you can hammer that box all day long and not worry about it. the whole heat rises thing is irrelevant, another cb myth.cool air flows across the heat sink and carries heat away, heat sink up, down on the side, it doesn't matter.

That amp really doesn't need a fan unless your planning on airing Pink Floyd's "Wall" album...

Antenna adjustment and being long winded adds to the amp heat.

That's what they do! "They get HOT!" But it won't hurt anything...You should feel how hot my tube amps get...Heck, talk about being able to fry a egg on top, I would just end up burning it...

I've had several of those TS box's and they do get warm after a while, but as long as it's not crammed under a seat or someplace where air can't vent off the heat sink then you might have a problem...But if it makes you feel better, adding a fan to the top of the heat sink wont hurt anything.

Those burned up wires, melted wires were not due to cooling heat sink via air, it was AMP DRAW. That amp was not being fed with large enough wire and or not enough power supply. Thats the likely reason, maybe not for sure, but I bet its a solid 95% reason. As JJD says, if its in the open you dont need a fan, but it wont hurt either, but, it wont prevent burnt/melted wires.

Thats almost enough. Add another one and you will be good. I love those mega watt supplies. Also note the S-400's are the best bang for the buck. Two of those supply 60 AMPs easy. You can parallel them.

TS 667 is not that good a box to start with....TS 500V tho is built like a tank...Had two of those...burned both up too, but it was my own fault. One my coax was shorted out and I didn't know it because I wasn't paying attention, and the second one I blew up because I thought it was a good idea to try and pump 18+ volts into it...didn't work out too good.

I agree with JJD on this, I would have gone with the TS 500 myself plus the heat sinks on both are more than adequate without a fan unless you live in the desert then I would mount it near my AC duct.
