New mic issue
I bought a new mic for my radio. But now, each time I RELEASE the key on the mic, I hear from my radio speaker, a loud ear hurting noise. How would I describe this noise? I'll try by saying it is: a squeal; a loud click; a loud static noise sound with a pop. The sound hurts the ears. Did not hear this when the original mic was still working. Can any one tell me why I am now hearing this? and, how can I, correct it.
The new mic is a brand new, 4 pin cobra. My radio is, a president, Honest Abe.
Thank you to all.

Re: New mic issue
Thank you for the suggestions. No it is not a power mike, just a cheep cobra mic.
I tried your suggestions. In the end, I replaced it with another one, of which I was told, is of better quality than the cobra. So far with this new, non- cobra mic, I have no issues at all.

Re: New mic issue
The problem is there was is a misalignment of the contacts in the PTT switch, the mic and TX contact is staying connected at the same time the RX makes contact. That can be blamed on a cheap switch, it happens. Only 2 things to do, rewire the mic contacts on the switch itself or find another microphone.
