New RCI 2950 CD
I received my new 2950 in the mail the other day from GI Joe's. Easy radio to navigate and the large frequency display is nice too. Only thing i don't like is that it has more white noise than what my Grant has. Switching between the two, i can definitely tell a difference. Anyone have any remedies?

Re: New RCI 2950 CD
It is a big difference in circuitry between those 2 radios, for one the Grant doesn't have to be as wide open to receive 10 through 12m frequencies, plus no FM circuit. I have found the Rangers are pretty sensitive in receiving low signals. To help eliminate some (man made noise) check around the house for interfering signals. Wall warts, fluorescent lights, some LED's, laptop chargers, etc., might not even be in your house but any neighbor within a distance on the same transformer. You could try a "DSP" speaker to clean up some of the receive hash.

Re: New RCI 2950 CD
You can make yourself a SNIFFER like I did makes it easier to find the noisemakers .... Use a 6 foot wooden pole or scrap trim with 18ft Coax tie wrap the coax to the pole leaving a foot of the center wire of the coax expose off the end of the pole hook the other end to your radio start walking the room or around the vehicle when you find the the noise maker you can try added Capacitors between the POS + and Neg - if it in a vehicle (12v) to reduce the noise. A/C i never had an issue there, So not sure what to use. But just keep sniffing around you will find the noise... I made one for my mobile with an AMP and a Export Galaxy It found all the noise makers and I put CAPS on them and it really reduced the Noise

It would be a great idea to explain to him what a ‘sniffer’ is.Gunner357 wrote: September 28th, 2020, 9:51 am You can make yourself a SNIFFER like I did makes it easier to find the noisemakers ....

Re: New RCI 2950 CD
Does the new radio have a more sensitive receiver maybe?

Re: New RCI 2950 CD
Try a shorted 1/4 wave stub with the shorted end grounded. Sometimes it will eliminate noise from the antenna.

Re: New RCI 2950 CD
This is set up as base. So a looped end of coax, have to try it! Maybe i can try the ferrite wraps too...I just need to find them around here. No pic i can get one if ya want...... But its really simple 6 foot piece of wood scrap trim or a broom handle tape or wire tie 18' of any coax RG58/RG8x (the length of coax is just so you can move around what your working on or reaching for fluorescent fixtures) , Strip about a foot of the the outer insulation and braid off leaving the center wire/dielectric loose from end of wood ( the wood just acts as a long handle) attach other end to your radio that's all ya need it will pick up any electric noisececil wrote: September 28th, 2020, 5:30 pmHey Gunner- got a pic of that sniffer...or what it it is made from?

Re: New RCI 2950 CD
All the rci ranger radios have a higher white noise level on receive than the older radios.
It's just the way they are.
Some people don't like it, and some people are not bothered by it at all.
I guess what Im saying is that it's normal for these radios.
