Post by AlyBaly »

Hello, recently purchased a sirio 2016 antenna, swr is perfect 1.1, huge white noise issues though, 9+, took it down tonight to check it over and there is a bit of condensation build up in the coil, is this ok or a no no? Cheers

Phoned the supplier they said just drill a hole in the clear surround to drain it, wasn't sure if it was a totally sealed unit or not, obviously no 🥴

I don't like the sound of that. Now you have a easy access point for condensation. You don't want that!

This is the inside of a Wilson 5000 coil that got moisture inside the plastic housing...it was apparently arcing right before it finally came un-yo-yo'ed and shorted out.

This is why I won't buy another CB antenna that has a enclosed coil...Open coil design antennas don't have a place for water to build up to the point something would short out...

However the top section of open coil antennas like Predator 10K's, and Monkey Mades can get water in the top section where the stinger slides in over time...easy fix is to just dab a little silicon around where the stinger go's in after you tune it, and that should keep water from getting in...
