Anyhow, if anyone has seen my posts about gettin an antenna for the apt. Here's what I finally got set up.
I gots me a Cobra 2000GTL ok, my antenna, ok, is get this.... a 7ft'er Firestik on top of an commercial air conditioner outside above a business. With a magnet base.
I finally got my SWR lowered to about 1.5 so ok it's finally somewhat safe to talk on.....
Well guess everything is doing it's job.
I just broke in like it was across the st. on Ch. 21.
Had a short contact with Wing Nut down in the Carolinas......didn't quite catch his numbers....but still none the less... This just proves..ya don't need a big antenna to skip shoot....
And here just last week, I was having a hard time getting across town.

I hadn't done any skip shootin in about 10 years. And on my first try, I catch it..

Skip?? WTF is skip?? Haven't caught any conditions around here for about two weeks now. Band was dead yesterday late morning and the same at about 4:30 PM, guess I'm on the wrong side of the "pond". 
Haven't made a contact since last month, and then I was in Western NY. Guess PA didn't pay their 11 meter taxes this month and DX service was terminated.

Yeah, the skip hasn't been happening much around here lately.
I was just sitting here cleaning up around the desk, and heard a bit coming through. So I thought I'd just roam around the dial to see what was up. Only a few channels had a bit coming through.
It would come in, then fade out, then come in again, then fade out.....
My last contact came on Ch. 1 to someone down in Alabama.
After that it just sort've faded out and left.
I'm hoping that if it was this good on my first try that the rest of the winter will be the same.
I do have a hard time on some channels because of static coming across the radio with alot of lines around me, and I can't do nothing about any of them. The spot that I put the antenna is the best I can do.
And honestly, I can't say that I've ever made a contact before on Ch. 1 or Ch. 21 for skip.
And I'm damn sure that if I had my TRC465 running, I wouldn't have done this tonight.
Once I charge a battery, I'll be rocking for sure with my D104 desk mic.
Btw, I usually go by 309 out of Ontario Canada, if it's hoppin', otherwise, I just go by the handle Phantom.....yeah yeah, I know, how original eh.

What part of Ontario are you in?? Used to talk local into Simcoe, Guelph, Hamilton a lot years back, and have DX contacts all over the rest of the Province. Easy trip over water, ya know?
May have to swing the quad around that way sometime. It's usually facing SE, so you'd normally be off the side.
