trc-447 new guy

i apoligize in advance for addressing old questions again. REAL NEW guy. just got first CB for a present. Radio Shack TRC-447, and want better performance? I've looked around a bit but seen nothing good about improving/modifying the radio. help please.....I'm sure there's a better radio...looking to mod this on if possible or can i use a linear?
