How can I tell how many AMPs my Alternator is??

Post by Loudmouth »

Hi,

I searched through many of these posts but haven't seen a reference to WHERE I can go a find out exactly how many amps my alternator puts out. It doesn't say anywhere on the alternator itself. It has just the following information. It's a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4x4, ext cab, w/ heavy duty tow package, and I'm almost positive I was told when I bought it that it had the high output charging system. Here's what's on the alternator ...

56041 693AA
DENSO
TN121000-4440 12V

I just had the battery checked and they told me it was at 69 amps so I know the battery is good.

Thanks,

Call your local auto parts store, they will be able to tell what you need to know. If all else fails call the local Dodge dealership.

Couldn't find anything at Autozone.com ...

I got the V8/4.7 GAS, but it's also got the heavy duty tow package, which they told me included high output charging system. It's none of those part numbers, that's what is making it hard to find. I'm pretty sure it's a 136 amp alternator.

I'm just trying to figure out how big an AMP I can go with without having to upgrade the alternator. Let's say it is the 136 amp alternator. Could I run a 500w or 1000w AMP off that without issues??

Thanks,

Here is where I buy my auto parts now. The largest selection and best prices. Warehouses all over the country. Fast service. Great customer service.

They offer 8 alternators for the 2001 Dakota 4.7.
