Passing the time

Well I hope everyone has enjoyed the winter season. I must say this is the best site on the net and everyone is friendly. This winter for me has been a mostly indoor one. Last November fell on the job and hurt the arm. Won't go into details but it sure not fun not being able to drive an 18 wheeler ( Something about one arm for steering and one for shifting, lol)Been getting more into the CB hobby though. Met Midlander / 308 here in my hometown , spent more time with the family and built up the video collection to over 400 movies. I think I have a lot of time on my hands, lol. Can't wait to get back to work, God bless everyone.

Thanks Chainsaw and Smiley, yes still having fun, sorry to hear about your back Chainsaw, glad to hear you got help with your tower, I've been trying to get the cable changed on mine, right now running the base on a 50 ft rg58u and definitely want to change it to the rg8 i have sit tin in the basement. Everyone says I should be able to shoot skip no problem once it is done but it will wait for another time. Once that's done I hope to meet a lot of you out there on the airwaves. Have a good one,

Well hope everyone is doing fine. Haven't been on the air much this week. Went to Vancouver, B.C and after 6 and a half hours of tests on my arm the word was in. I developed CRPS. Kinda sucks but what can you do. Apparently it is not curable but gotta keep the hope and say my prayers. Looks like driving truck is out of my life now so got to start thinking of a new career a one arm bandit can do, lol. Might change my handle to that, lol. Did treat myself to a CB on eBay today. A trc-449. Maybe run that in the car. Other than that, same old stuff.

Hi all, well thanks for the concern, today was a better day, still the same for me but as for being on the air , the last 2 days have been decent. Yesterday was talking with a buddy on the air here in town and within minutes quite a few people were talking up a storm. Been a real good sale on rad shak CB stuff at one of our stores and guess word is getting out as it seemed the old Cb's were coming out of the woodwork as people were doing bases and mobiles. Made it not so boring being at home :D Have a good one all and a better one tomorrow.

I got to say today was interesting, I got some help from Midlander / 308 and another buddy to put up a rg8/u cable. Well the cable was no good, so we or I should say they put the old cable back on for me. We had one connector off and after they left I got the other one off and hooked it up to another antenna and the swr did come down, there is a small bit of rubber missing about half way on the cable so gonna look for new connectors and a rubber coating to see if it will work until I can get a new cable. Thanks Midlander / 308 and Yanick, it did make it a better day for me anyway. Yesterday was nice as well, went out for a bit and found 2 portables at a garage sale. Another trc-217 and a trc-207. Nice unites for a buck a piece. My daughter wants one of them so her birthday is pretty soon. Guess she'll be getting one. :D

Well, what a week, Found the problem with my rg8u cable. Amazing how new connectors can make a big difference. :D Now to hopefully get some help again to put it up. Been to physio all week and not helping the pain. Guess that's why I am doing this at this time of night. Been very grateful that my wife is patient with all this and my kids are a blessing after their lives have changed a bit since the accident and they spend more time with dad. Well in about 9 hours one of our local churches is having that swing into spring garage sale so bring my family along and see what goodies we can get. I really don't think there is any question as to what dad is hoping to find. best wishes for all my fellow cb'rs out there , enjoy your weekend and always remember tomorrow is a new day.

Hello and waving a hand to all my fellow cbr's. Today was good, tested my handy work for the pl259 connectors on my rg/8u and seen how my soldering job faired. I hooked it to a female cable connector and then to my thin coax to check swr and strength of signal. To my delight the swr came down even with 100 ft total cable (about 60 feet of it snaking through my living room, the wife was not impressed, lol) and radio check i got from a friend said it was a definite improvement so in a few days gonna buy a 20 ft ladder and and up goes the rg'8u. So hopefully the next time the skip rolls in I'll be shooting well enough to say hello.

Happy Easter to all. Hope everyone and their family's have a great Easter. I finally got my RG8-U cable hooked up and not sure if it was the cable or not but the static I used to pick up with RG58 cable has gone down. Sure is nice to hear the distance stations. Had a good and bad day yesterday, the good was picked up a trc-430 at a garage sale and it was like brand new. Cost $5.00 for the CB and antenna. The bad was the problem with my arm. The burning sensation was from the elbow down to my wrist and it felt about the same as a burn a person would get from touching a hot frying pan. Final note; Let's remember the people serving for our country's who can't be home for this holiday. A prayer as well wouldn't hurt either.

Howdy to all, well the powers that be have decided to send me away to get injections to hopefully get my arm going again. I am keeping my fingers crossed as this is about the last shot for any good to happen. If it doesn't work then retraining is in the picture. Doc asked what else I would be interested in doing. I told him open a CB store, lol. Well just have to see how it goes. Either way I think I'll look into the CB store as it is something I really enjoy. Just have to learn more electronics and be able to repair on site as well. Take care everyone and have a good one. Gravedigger out.

Hi to all cb'rs out there, Well got back today and what an ordeal, no injections but now have to go to a pain management therapy to learn how to deal with the pain and increase the pain medication. Other than that it is good to be home with the family.

I feel for you. I have arthritis real bad in my back. I've had injections twice and they only gave me 2 months relief at best. I went to my pain doctor on Monday and he now wants to cauterize the nerves in one section of my back. It should give me 6 to 8 months of relief. In that time period I am going to try to lose 50 pounds. If I can do that it will definitely take a lot of strain off my spine.

I wish you the best of luck with everything.

Hi Shaft and 316, Shaft , I feel for ya, if your back is anything like my arm definitely feel for ya. I think I would rather have it in the arm though. I was hoping for injections so I could get off this medication and get some relief if only for a short time but being stoned on it seems what they want, lol. They did say they wanted to triple the medication so if I am stoned now can't wait to see what it does then  . I hear you on losing the weight, I've gained almost 35 pounds in six months and have to eat as one side effect is increased appetite. Not good. Oh how it would be nice to get over this and move on. I'd go for walks but within 10 minutes my arm swells so much it starts looking like a baseball mitt. Maybe I should go to a pro baseball game, I don't think I'd have any trouble catching a ball. Hope you get better soon Shaft.

I'm hurting a lot this weekend. Good news is it got me out of doing some housework. Bad news is I can't go to church this morning because I'm hurting so bad.

I'm sorry you both are hurtin' so bad! :( It's frustrating to keep going back to doctors with no real solution and lots of pain....I went through something with my ears last year that was horrible and ended up in surgery but the doctors drove me crazy. Sometimes I don't think they know as much as they pretend to.

I was lucky enough to finally get relief and I hope that both of you will find someone/something that will help eventually....hang in there.

Hi to all and hello shaft and Tucson Annie,
well here we go again, don't know what to say about this anymore, I am so out of it 90% of the time and the bad part is the pain and swelling is 24/7 now. This stuff I'm on definitely makes a person sleepy and driving is like I'm now 80 instead of 40 something. Sound like a drunk when I'm talking most of the time too, drives my wife nuts considering I don't drink, lol. On the other hand our pastor keeps asking about if I can come to church. My loving wife keeps explaining that I wouldn't be able to sit for the hour or so and personally I don't think they want me sleeping across a bunch of chairs and snoring, , anyhow this has taken awhile to write this little bit so I will be saying have a good one everyone and may the skip start rolling in, (which would be really nice).

I hear you when it comes to church. For most of my life I have always been very active at church. Now the thought of having to sit there for an hour scares me. I'm hoping to do something soon so that I can get back to my normal routine. I hate not be able to go to church.

hey all, again with the trip, go next week to "pain management". being on the cynical side-ooh la la. And again with the comment if I am eligible as they will see if I am a candidate for the program. I've been going to physio for 2 weeks again and still no improvement. Even did the cold test to see if my arm reacted to temperature. Well same old result. Stuck just my hand in cold water from the tap and the burn sensation kicked in. :x I wish they could do something as I am getting very tired of doctors, these trips which to me are a waste to keep telling me there is nothing they can do. My apologies gang, I am so frustrated to the point where some of these quacks are gonna here a few invoice words. And when I try to tell them what is going on they tell me what I feel. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't think it takes 8 hours to put a mag mount in a car. And then having people looking at you as they walk by giving the look that your nuts because the tears are flowing from being in so much pain but you want to get the job done. I am blowing off some steam, maybe not the right place and again I apologize. And now on top of it the home we've rented has been sold so having to move and having a bad arm makes it just more interesting. Someone got any ideas on perking up? No booze or drugs, the prescription is more than enough.
