Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
To be quite honest I don't think there is any difference between usb and lsb but the difference in AM and SSB is like night and day. It takes a little getting use to but once you get the hang of it you'll love it.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
just got my first SSB radio (a refurbed 949 from Sparkys) and I'm hooked already. I've been easily making DX contacts barefoot with a Little Will antenna, its so much easier than trying to bust through the mud on AM, don't know why I didn't try it earlier.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
SSB is OK I guess if your talking on a Base...But in a mobile, there's just too much fine tuning involved on SSB to talk and drive at the same time. (IMO)
All but one of my radios have SSB...And I think I have talked SSB maybe 4 or 5 times in the past couple of years.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
I don't know what I would do without SSB. Although it pays to have a good SSB rig, not all ssb equipped radios are capable SSB talkers. I have a Cobra 142 with an unlocked clarifier, and I wouldn't trade it for the world....well, maybe for a 2000 gtl setup the same!! LOL
Once you try SSB with a capable rig....you'll never go back.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
I use my President Lincoln on SSB more than my other SSB radios. Very stable, no drift, and thus very little to do with the clarifier unless the other person is off freq. I love SSB and hit 38 LSB often when DX conditions are good.
Problem is most of today's exports have a fair amount of drift on SSB which is a pain. Especially in a mobile. I can handle the drifters OK on a base.

I heard you loud and clear in Chattanooga TN one evening this week. I tried to get you back but there was so much traffic and I doubt my little mobile setup would make the trip.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
On the European side of the pond most SSB stations opperate on 27.555 USB. some monitor 26.835 or 26.905 LSB.
If you have set up correctly, RX,& TX performance should be exactly the same on USB and LSB.
A lot of 11meter band DXers in the UK drive to elivated locations and set up a mobile static stations, normally using a 5/8 wave vertical to work the skip.
They make an all day field trip of it , particually at this time of the year. Normally June ,July , August, Is when the skip is running
strongest in Northern Europe, and the weather is warm. Alot of these well known high locations have beautiful views worth the
drive alone. Makes a lot of sense persuing your hobby and getting out and about absorbing the great outdoors.

Try 16 lsb in the early morning.
That is the old channel for SSB from the 23 channel days. I talk to a lot of Canada from SC on barefoot in the early ( 5-7 ) am.
